Frequently asked questions

How do I know which service is right for my dog?

During our initial contact, I’ll ask you a few questions about your dog, their age, history, and the challenges you’re experiencing. From there, I can recommend the most appropriate option. The goal is to make sure you and your dog get the support that best meets your needs.

Do I need a referral from my vet?

No, a referral isn’t required. However, behaviour can be significantly affected by pain or underlying medical concerns. For that reason, if something in your dog’s history or behaviour suggests that health may be playing a role, I will advise a visit to your vet as part of the process. If your dog has an existing medical condition, with your permission, I am happy to work alongside your veterinary team to ensure your dog receives the most appropriate and well-rounded support.

How many sessions will we need?

Every dog is different, so there’s no fixed number of sessions. Some dogs and owners benefit from just a few sessions, while more complex behaviour challenges may require ongoing support over a longer period. During our work together, we will regularly review progress and adjust the plan as needed, and keep in mind realistic expectations.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are held in environments that are most relevant to your dog’s needs. Often initial consults take place in your home and ongoing sessions may again be in your home or in appropriate outdoor location. The aim is to work where your dog feels most comfortable and where the challenges are actually happening.

What if I need support between sessions?

You’re not on your own between sessions. Ongoing support is available, whether that’s answering questions, adjusting your plan, or providing reassurance as you work through things at home. Behaviour change happens outside of sessions, and having support along the way is an important part of that process. I aim to respond to messages within 24 - 48 hours and I will make you aware when I will be unavilable.

Will training fix my dog’s behaviour completely?

Training and behaviour work isn’t about creating a “perfect” dog. It’s about helping your dog feel more comfortable, confident, and able to cope with their world. While significant improvement is achievable, behaviour change takes time, consistency, and realistic expectations. My role is to guide and support you through that process.
